I am researching ways for robots to independently learn interaction with human users in a safe and non-invasive way. This way, trustworthiness is built through increase in comfort of the interaction, as the robot is able to adapt to its user without asking uncomfortable questions.

I chose to apply for the CDT because I was interested in areas and views that I would not be exposed to if doing a PhD on my own. I see value in having a cohort of people who all work on different aspects and approaches but share the same goal of making AI safer and more trustworthy.
