My research focuses on leveraging common-sense knowledge for the process of robot task planning. More specifically, it aims to improve the safety and trustworthiness of plans (sequences of actions) that are generated for a robot to execute, by using structured knowledge bases (knowledge graphs). This is to be done through the incorporation of knowledge which is intuitive to humans into the decision-making process of generating the plan. The primary goal is to improve planning approaches, whilst making the planning process safer and more interpretable to users, and by doing so, increasing people’s trust in the system.

I wanted to be part of the CDT due to the focus on responsible development of AI systems, with an emphasis on aspects such as safety and fairness and their implications in practice. I was also excited about the cohort-based approach and the opportunity to learn along people from different backgrounds that share a common effort.
