Sophia Worth

Sophia started her PhD at KCL in June 2024. Her research aims to investigate the barriers for ethical data practice, to generate empirical evidence to inform improvements to ethical interventions that are used in practice across sectors. The recent proliferation of data and AI ethics guidelines, frameworks, and training courses reflects significant motivation and need for more structured ethical practice beyond what is mandatory in legislation, yet such interventions tend to contain abstract principles and remain generic across different types of practitioner, and with limited evidence regarding their impact. This project will develop an empirical approach for analysis of barriers combining in depth case study research (still to be identified) of a single AI application area combined with mixed methods incorporating a wider range of use case areas.
