Starting her career as a Development Programmer for IBM, Alison has been involved in a wide range of development projects, from the first Electronic Funds Transfer pilot (precursor to chip and pin), through early techniques in image enhancement of mammograms for improved cancer detection, to innovative call centre telephony. As well as program development she has at various times specialised in user interface design, software library management, technical support, pre-sales support, user training and project management.
From IBM she moved on to Siemens and then Dell, where she began to focus on technical and proposal documentation. She has led a global team that provided multi-language proposal content for multi-million-dollar opportunities around the world, with all the logistical and communication challenges that brings.
Now working part-time administering the Centre at Imperial College London, that ability to overcome challenges has proven invaluable.
